New Jersey County Strip Search Cases
KO&L is counsel in cases that have been filed against a number of New Jersey counties alleging that corrections officers employed at the county-run facilities engaged in the practice of illegally strip-searching all individuals charged with non-indictable or minor offenses upon their entry into the facilities. The first of these cases, Hicks v. Camden County settled for $7.5 million and payments to class members will commence in August 2008. Additional cases are now pending against Atlantic, Bergen, Cumberland, Mercer, Middlesex, Ocean and Union counties.
